NNRs, SSSIs and LNRs
National Nature Reserves (NNRs), Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSIs) and Local Nature Reserves (LNRs) are designated by Natural England (NE) who also oversee their management.
Within the county there are currently three NNRs, 42 SSSIs, and 20 LNRs.
As Natural England maintains information about these we will not duplicate their efforts here, so here are links to the relevant sections of their website: (Note: Natural England is currently moving its website contents around and maintaining these links is proving to be quite a challenge!)
We don't currently have any National Parks, Special Areas of Conservation, Ramsar Sites or World Heritage Sites within our area. We do however have the Chilterns Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).
