These are the major county-wide BAP habitat GIS layers that we hold. They are updated as required when new information becomes available to us.

Floodplain Grazing Marsh

Lowland Fen

This dataset includes Reedbeds as it was prepared for the Natural England inventory which included reedbeds in the habitat definition.

Lowland Calcareous grassland

Accuracy:
Mapped by extracting polygons on chalk soils from OS MasterMap and comparing them with the chalk grassland areas identified on the 1988 Phase 1 habitat map. These were then checked against 2002 aerial photos to see if grassland areas still existed and using expert knowledge and survey information areas considered to be BAP habitat only (ie. National Vegetation Classification CG1-9) were identified.

Traditional Orchards

This dataset is from the Natural England inventory for Orchards as submitted by the Peoples Trust for Endangered Species, which includes information provided by the BRMC. Traditional Orchards are located using aerial photography, Ordnance Survey MasterMap, external datasets compiled from historic surveys, and ground survey ("ground-truthing"). This dataset is not yet finalised as surveys to confirm areas identified are yet to be completed and additional orchard areas may be added to this layer. The BRMC has added information not yet supplied to PTES. It is hoped this dataset will be improved with information created by the Orchards East HLF project.
